Magglingen - Switzerland
6 - 13 may 2018
"Gruezi" to Switzerland
2018 will see a return to Europe, more specifically to the beautiful village of Magglingen in the Swiss Canton of Bern. The 13th World Championships in Gym Wheel and the 4th World Championships in Cyr Wheel will take place from 6-13 May 2018 at a height of up to 1000 metres above sea level.
Magglingen is linked by funicular railway to the city of Biel, approximately 30 minutes away from the Swiss capital, Bern. The Swiss national sports federation (BASPO) is based in Magglingen, with views over Lake Biel and an Alpine panorama landscape. It has accommodation for up to 200 people and a range of modern sports facilities. The sports hall Sport-Toto-Halle will be the venue for the World Championships at the beginning of May 2018 (in the week of Ascension Day) and has space for up to 400 spectators. There are enough hotels, camp sites and other options for overnight accommodation in the area, so it should be easy to combine a relaxing holiday with a visit to the world championships.
After our previous events in Switzerland – including the World Championships 2009 and Team World Cup 2012 in Baar – we are very happy to be returning to the home country of the IRV. The many unforgettable moments of the 2009 World Championships are still fresh in our memories and we look forward to Magglingen 2018!
President of the IRV
Welcome to Switzerland
RHÖNRADswiss and SATUS Schweiz are extremely happy to be organising the 13th Wheel Gymnastics World Championships 2018 and thank the IRV Excecutive Board for placing their trust in us.
It will be Switzerland’s third wheel gymnastics world championships. After Liestal in 2001 and Baar in 2009, the World Championships in Magglingen will take place from 6-13 May 2018. The Swiss national sports federation (BASPO) has a centre of excellence for Swiss sport in Magglingen, above the city of Biel. More than 200 000 visitors a year make use of the professional infrastructure for mind and body, where they are able to enjoy the unique sporting atmosphere, the excellent catering facilities and of course the wonderful view over the Bernese lakes and plateau.
We are very proud of the fact that BASPO has given us its full support in hosting the 2018 championships.
We are convinced that we will be able to organise an excellent world championships event in 2018 and we guarantee an unforgettable experience for all participating athletes, officials and spectators. The media will be well represented and will be able to give the sports of Gym Wheel and Cyr Wheel a high degree of recognition.

The Swiss sports federation in Magglingen is the home of Swiss athletes and offers optimal conditions for the World Championships in 2018. Overnight accommodation, restaurants and sports halls are all located in close proximity to one another, which means that everything can be reached within a short walk. Athletes can relax before and after their competitions in the modern single, two-bed or three-bed rooms. An athlete-oriented range of restaurants is also available, as well as a wide choice of recreational activities.
The sports hall "Sport-Toto-Halle" is a 5-10 minute walk from the overnight accommodation. It has space for 400 spectators during the All Around and qualifying competitions, as well as additional extra seating capacity for the finals. The hall has already been used as a venue for various Swiss wheel gymnastics events.
